10 days ago Ryan and I were dropped off at the Portland airport at 6am with our backpacks stuffed to the brim (uh-oh, isn’t it a little early in the trip for that?), and our hearts pounding.
After a very long 32-hour travel day we collapsed on the bed in our Airbnb in Prague and looked at each other. “We did it.” With our one-way flight out of the way we knew that we were one big ocean away from home. We were relieved to finally be doing what we had been talking about for so long. We barely had the energy to take off our stinky socks before we passed out on that enticingly horizontal bed.
We spent three wonderful, groggy days wandering the streets of Prague, alternately marveling at the beautiful European buildings and cursing the difficulty of finding ticket machines for the tram.
Just a few days ago, we hopped on a bus towards Krakow, Poland. I don’t know what was going on, but we spent a good hour at the border between the Czech Republic and Poland while passports were checked, and two people were taken off the bus. I would have asked the driver, but he was a cranky man who enjoyed honking for seemingly no reason and seemed to only speak an angry version of Czech. That delay, plus a random 45 minute stop at a gas-station meant we were over an hour late coming into our transfer station in Wroclaw. Yep, we missed our bus. Even more irritating, we were told that we had to pay again to catch the next bus headed to Krakow. After two hours of people-watching in a Wroclaw mall, we were finally headed in the right direction.
Now, here we are in an adorable pink shoebox apartment, feeling very grateful to have made it. Hopefully we won’t have as much trouble getting around on the next few legs of our journey.
That’s all for now, but don’t worry – I’m just getting started.
Thanks for joining me!
